YouTube Enhances Shorts Editor to Compete with TikTok

YouTube Shorts vs TikTok short video creation and editing tools

YouTube recently announced a series of updates for its short video editor, YouTube Shorts, aiming to offer a more competitive alternative to TikTok. These improvements include the introduction of new editing tools and the extension of the maximum video length.

New Editing Tools Inspired by TikTok

Among the new features, YouTube has introduced a timeline-based editing interface, allowing creators to trim, rearrange clips, zoom into sequences, and overlay text and music. Additionally, automatic music synchronization with the video’s rhythm simplifies the editing process. These additions echo popular features from TikTok and Instagram Reels.

Extension of Shorts Duration

Starting October 15, 2024, the maximum length of Shorts videos will increase from 60 seconds to 3 minutes. This extension responds to repeated requests from creators wishing to produce richer and more diverse content.

Introduction of the YouTube Create App

YouTube has also launched a new app called YouTube Create, designed to make video editing easier directly from a smartphone. This app offers tools such as precise editing, trimming, adding voiceovers, and access to a library of royalty-free music.

AI Features and Other Improvements

In addition to editing tools, YouTube has introduced AI-based features, such as “Dream Screen,” allowing creators to use AI-generated videos and photos as backgrounds for Shorts.

These updates are part of YouTube’s strategy to compete with TikTok and attract more creators to its platform.
